The Luther Decade is a series of events which began on September 21st 2008 and is aimed at the year of 2017, when Martin Luther’s posting of his thesis celebrate its 500th anniversary. In the Luther Decade, the wide range of issues of the Reformation is recorded and displayed in theme years. On the one hand there is remeberance to some historical commemorative years (450th anniversary of Melanchthon in 2010 or the 500th birthday of Lucas Cranach. J. in 2015). On the other hand, the Luther Decade incorporates input of the Reformation, which reach into the present.
In 2008-2017 the Luther Decade invites with various events and travel deals to search for clues on authentic locations of the Reformation. It is reminiscent of the 500th anniversary of Luther’s posting of his theses that set the Reformation in motion in Wittenberg on October 31st 1517.
Exhibitions, concerts, church services, festivals and theater productions will highlight the importance of the Reformation and Martin Luther’s life and domains. The wide range of topics of the Reformation is depicted in theme years.
